Week of Oct 16 - Oct 26th

Hello, Cheer families!  Lots of changes/additions upcoming to the calendar in the next few weeks because we've secured extra gym time for comp season, so here is the update for the remainder of this week and next week!  Please also double check the last blog post for information for the remainder of this week.  (I re-do Wednesdays through Saturdays each post, adding information if needed.)

Friday's game will be cold and wet!  Please bring layers/handwarmers/earwarmers/gloves/etc!  I will make the call at Thursday's practice whether or not we will be dressing out in uniform or just wearing warmups with layers.  Standby.  Don't forget your poms.

PLAYOFFS:  We will be starting playoff season in the next couple of weeks - keep your Friday/Saturday schedules clear outside of our competitions.  We may be in a situation where we need to cheer and then go compete or vice versa.  Let's hope our guys go far and we make it back to the big stadium for another shot at a state title!  Information regarding playoff games is typically short notice due to the nature of the schedule.  As soon as I have information regarding dates/times/locations, I will immediately pass it to you.  If we go far, we will have a game the week prior to Thanksgiving and likely the Friday or Saturday immediately following.

COMPETITIONS:  We are starting...get ready!  Please review the handbook regarding eligibility and attendance.  The same short-notice type of situation happens for our competitions, as well, and we could compete as early as 8 or 9 am or as late as 8 or 9 pm, depending on the size of the competition and other factors. Plan on arriving 2 hours before we are scheduled to go on.  I do not have information regarding our floor time for Pueblo yet.  Again, when I have it, I will immediately pass it along.  I do know that we are slotted to go 8th (last competition slot) for Leagues, right before the JV division.

Preliminary Info about Pueblo:  This is our first shot for a Nationals Bid.  The Pueblo competition will be held at

Colorado State Fair Events Center
1001 Beulah Avenue
Pueblo, CO 81004

It's a bit longer than a 2 hour drive.  If you aren't planning on heading down Saturday night (the cheer team is not sponsoring any hotel stays in any official capacity, but I heard that some people might take the trek down early), give yourself plenty of time to arrive - no telling what the weather, traffic, etc will be like.

We don't have an order of competition just yet.  Again, when I have it, I will immediately pass it along.

I think that's quite enough to make our heads spin for awhile.  Please note the time changes for ALL November practices.  We need all hands on deck!

I do not want to put the cart before the horse, but if we make a bid for Nationals and we determine that we are going (the decision will be made very shortly after the bid is issued), I want parents/athletes to be aware of the financials - flights to Orlando are not cheap this time of year and while we do get a discount by staying with Disney, it is still quite an expense to go.  We will do fundraising and seek sponsorship, but please be aware that fundraising alone will probably not cover your cheer's entire cost. We still have October, November, and December tumbling payments to make through Peak, some are behind on team fees, and there is a winter athletics fee.  We also have the upcoming holidays if you celebrate them.  I know we've all been thinking about it, but it's time to put the cost of a Nationals trip to the front of our minds (as well as ways to offset it) as our cheers make the effort to earn the bid.  :o)

UPCOMING BASKETBALL SEASON:  We have a schedule for basketball, but we are going to be dividing up the games.  Each game will have 3 stunt groups assigned to cheer it.  Each stunt group should plan on doing one double-header.  Most games this year are scheduled as double headers.  This means we can get time in the gyms when the basketball teams are away, but we will have the potential for some long nights when they are home.  Striking a balance between double headers, girls and boys games and wrestling matches, and schedules can be tricky.  We will get the information to you as soon as we have it.  There is a game scheduled for Saturday, December 21st at 8pm.  Mark your calendars now.  ALL cheers will cheer this game because of the time and date.

There will be a post comp season/winter holiday party planned after the state meet.   Details upcoming.

Have a good rest of this week and next week!  As always, call with questions.
