Hello, Cheer families!
I'm still just over the moon from last week! What a great day.
We all had such a good time at Savie's last night at our holiday party! Special thanks to Sharon and Jeff Marshall for opening up their beautiful home to us for a night of celebration and bonding. It was a great way to end the bulk of our competition season.
Basketball and wrestling is officially in full swing! Remember cheers, if you need a free game, I need notice, and it's not a guarantee that we can accommodate it. Because we cut down so heavily on the number of cheers during basketball season, we can't have more than 2 people take free games at a time because our numbers get too small on the court. Therefore, free games are requests - not guarantees but I will do my best to help accomodate. If you switch a game with someone, I also need to know so that I don't have any surprises when the team shows up at game time. The person who is initiating the switch is responsible for informing Coach.
While we're at it, I'll just re-iterate that there are NO FREE GAMES OR SWITCH GAMES DURING FINALS WEEK. PLAN your studying for finals accordingly. Our Tuesday practice will be shortened to accommodate studying since that afternoon is the shortest period of time between the end of class and start of finals. Practice, as always, is mandatory that week. Ask your teachers for a review before break if you feel like you will need it. With proper planning now, it will not be an issue.
We have some (more) paperwork to sign and medical releases, etc to fill out for Nationals. I will pass these out on Tuesday of next week and I need them back by Wednesday at UE. I only received ONE copy of each of these papers per athlete, so it is imperative that you don't lose it. If you are a cheerleader, plan to get this paper on Tuesday and take it home. If you are a parent, plan to fill it out Tuesday night and return it Wednesday. One form will be an airline information form so I can put the names on the plane tickets as they should appear. Plane tickets and all of the nationals bill has been placed as a loan from athletics as I mentioned at the Nationals meeting, so ignore the cancellation policy verbage from UCA - our deadline for nationals financial commitment passed when we gave the deposit in November.
Friday's game was highlighted in Bold on the basketball calendar (which usually indicates a home game) but then it is listed as away. The game on Friday is away. (We don't typically travel during basketball season until playoffs). So we will ALL be pitching in for Fundraiser Friday. See below for details.
The Pancake breakfast is our next big fundraiser following JV state this weekend! Cheers will get twelve tickets to pre-sell for the breakfast. Tickets are $10 for adults and kids over 10 and $5 for kids under 10. The breakfast is on January 10th in the cafeteria. We will also take walk up guests, but the pre-sales guarantee that we make some money from the event. If you need more pre-sale tickets, we can definitely accomodate.
Please also continue to make contacts with local businesses for website sponsorship! All they have to do is go to the CT athletics website, click on "Support our Athletic Teams" and choose Cheer. Easy as pie. Also, I was contacted by Blackstone to do community babysitting on Friday nights. I'm going to work with them to see if we can get that rolling for cheers on the nights they don't have to do Friday night games as an additional resource. Please also don't forget that Bronco games are a good way to raise money as well.
Friday and Saturday:
Friday night is our second Parent's Night Out event. All cheers will attend - there is no game to cheer that night. Bring games, books, coloring just like last time. Starting at around 7:30, some cheers will go to work with Mia to set up for JV state, some will tie bells on to holly grams, and most of you will be with the kids for PNO. Parent's night out is from 6 - 9. Cheers, please arrive at 5:30 for set up in the lower lecture center like last time.
Saturday for JV State: Cheers, please arrive at 7:30am. Wear a matching CT shirt - get info from Captains as to which one. I don't recommend the State shirt because you'll probably get hot in long sleeves. Each Cheer has a job to do for the full day. Parents, if you haven't signed up for a slot, please do - there are some still left over. If all the slots fill, please come for the two hour time you would have signed up for - there will probably be PLENTY of things that need a hand. There may - don't count on it - be some time between set-up and the start of the competition for cheers to leave and come back again if they want, but if there's stuff to do, we have to get it done, so don't count on that time just in case. We will be done at the conclusion of the competition after all the mats are rolled up, concessions are cleaned up, tables are put back, and CT looks like a school and not a competition venue again. Cheers plan to stay until that's done. The more people who pitch in, the faster it goes and the faster we can be done.
Thanks to everyone for working so hard this week for fundraising, etc and taking on JV State - it's a big undertaking, and it makes us an important part of the spirit community when we help out in this capacity.
